Early Life and Education
Cassidy Jacqueline Hutchinson was born in 1996 in Pennington, New Jersey. She comes from a family of four that includes her father Richard Hutchinson, mother Angela Hutchinson, and her brother Jack Hutchinson. Her parents raised her and her brother in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey.
She graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School in 2015. She was a first-generation college student who studied political science and American studies at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. She graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Career in Washington D.C.
While attending college, Hutchinson interned for Republican Senator Ted Cruz in 2016 and for Republican House Whip Steve Scalise in 2017. In 2018, she interned in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. She later became an employee of the office.
In March 2020, when Mark Meadows became Trump’s fourth chief of staff, he selected her to serve as one of his aides. She soon became his principal assistant and coordinator for legislative affairs. She worked in an office next to Meadows’ office, just down the hall from the Oval Office. She took notes at meetings, traveled with Meadows, monitored his phone, and relayed his orders. She was described as a close confidante of Meadows.
She was also seen dancing with White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany at a Trump campaign rally in Ohio in September 2020.
Testimony Before the January 6 Committee
Hutchinson testified before the January 6 Committee on June 28, 2022. She provided testimony on President Donald Trump’s conduct and that of his senior aides and political allies before and during the Capitol attack. She said she overheard Trump saying he did not care that the protesters had weapons because they were not there to hurt him. She also said she heard Rudy Giuliani telling her that Trump and his team were going to the Capitol on January 6. She said she felt scared and asked Meadows about it, but he said “There’s a lot going on Cass. Things might get real real bad” .
Her testimony received significant national attention, with several media outlets labeling it as “compelling” and “explosive” , despite criticism from Trump allies.
She also wrote a memoir titled Enough, which was published in September 2023. In her book, she alleges that Giuliani groped her backstage during Trump’s speech on January 6 .
