Kwame Appiah is one of the most popular contestants on the fourth season of Netflix’s reality show Love Is Blind, where singles try to find their soulmates without seeing each other. Kwame, who is originally from Ghana but lives in Portland, Oregon, impressed many viewers with his charm, charisma, and athletic physique. But how old is Kwame, and what else do we know about him?
Kwame’s Age And Career
According to his promotional Instagram post for Love Is Blind, Kwame was 33 years old and worked as a sales development manager at the time of filming. However, his LinkedIn now lists his job as Head of Community Development at Common Room, a position he’s held since August 2022. Therefore, Kwame’s shift to Seattle solidly happened either during or after Love Is Blind season 4 production.
Kwame is also a former professional soccer player, having played since high school and eventually going on to play for the Philadelphia Fury and the Delaware Stars. He coached some youth soccer before getting into sales and is currently the head of community development for a business platform called The Common Room, geared towards helping businesses connect to their market.
One fascinating aspect of Kwame’s life that is largely glossed over in the pods of Love Is Blind is the shocking and devastating end to his professional soccer career. In an incredibly vulnerable post from March 2022, Kwame shared that he endured a career-ending injury in Sweden while playing soccer in 2019.
Kwame’s Love Life And Drama
On Love Is Blind, Kwame connected with two women in the pods: Chelsea Griffin, a 31-year-old pediatric speech-language pathologist, and Micah Lussier, a 27-year-old marketing manager. He ultimately proposed to Chelsea, but at the first pool party during the “honeymoon” with the other matched couples, Kwame sidebars with Micah about their experiences so far. The conversation goes on a little too long for the liking of their partners, Paul Pedon and Chelsea, who watch on rather aghast that they seem to be getting cozy enough to hold hands, swinging their feet over the poolside.
A preview for future Love Is Blind season 4 episodes suggests that trouble is brewing in Kwame and Chelsea’s relationship. In one preview clip, Micah asks Kwame if he is questioning his relationship with Chelsea, underpinned by dramatic music. Additionally, Kwame expresses his concerns in another scene and bemoans his necessitated compromises, while Chelsea simply quips, “welcome to marriage”.
Watching the mishaps and speed bumps that accumulate over the next few episodes between Kwame and Chelsea will be fascinating as their engagement seems anything but solid. Kwame seems like a standup guy for the most part, so it will be fun for fans to watch his journey through the experiment.
Kwame’s Social Media Presence
Kwame maintains an active Instagram presence on his page, which can be found at @ayokwam. One hallmark of his Instagram is his penchant for photography– he even has a photography website, Agent Kwam, where clients can hire him for personal and professional events. He also showcases his sense of adventure, and his page features photos of him exploring mountains, deserts, and cities alike.
One thing of note is that he and Chelsea don’t seem to follow each other, but he and Micah do. Is this a sign of trouble ahead? Fans will have to tune in to the rest of Love Is Blind season 4 to find out.
The first five episodes of Love Is Blind Season 4 are now streaming on Netflix.
